There were some couple of Nigerian players who played in the Europa League yesterday, below is a roundup of their performance.
Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahce)
Emenike came on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Turkish side, Alper Potuk as they rescued a draw at Odessa via a late equalizer by Danish defender Simon Kjaer.
Brown Ideye (Olympiakos)
Ideye provided the assist for Esteban Cambiasso to score the winner away against Young Boys at Stade de Suisse. He was replaced in the 82nd minute by Oscar Cardozo.
Wilfred Ndidi (KRC Genk)
Ndidi played all 90 minutes in the defensive midfield position as they lost 3-2 to Rapid Vienna at the Allianz stadion.
Abdullahi Nura (AS Roma)
Nura’s knee ligament injury kept him out of contention for a place in the squad that earned a 1-1 draw at Plzen.
Nosa Igiebor (Maccabi Tel Aviv)
Nosa played all 90 minutes for his Israeli side, but they lost 3-4 to Russian giant Zenit St Petersburg.
Fred Friday (AZ Alkmaar)
Friday started against Dundalk in the 1-1 draw and was replaced by Wout Weghorst in the 55th minute.
Olarenwaju Kayode (Austria Wien)
Kayode came on as an 82nd-minute substitute for goalscorer Kevin Friesenbichler as they won 3-2 away at Astra.
Elderson Echiejile (Standard Liege)
Elderson returned from an injury and played 86 minutes in Standard’s 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo and was replaced by Corentin Fiore.
Raheem Lawal and Aminu Umar (Osmanlispor)
Lawal played all 90 minutes as Turkish side Osmanlispor defeated FC Steaua Bucharesti 2-0 at the Osmanli Stadyumu. Umar scored Osmanli’s second goal in the 74th minute when Tiago Pinto’s cross found him in the box which he controlled and buried into the bottom left corner of Nita Florin’s goal. He was replaced immediately after the goal by Congolese Dzon Delarge.
Anthony Nwakaeme and John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheba)
Nwakaeme and Ogu both played all 90 minutes as Hapoel grabbed a deserved win away at San Siro against Inter-Milan.
Moses Simon and Rabiu Ibrahim (Gent)
Simon started Gent’s 1-1 draw against Braga, but sustained a knock in the 38th minute and was replaced by Kalifa Coulibaly in the 40th minute. Rabiu Ibrahim sat out on the bench all game.
