Perfomance of Nigerian Footballers in Europe
Every week, we will be assessing the performance of Nigerian footballers in Europe over the weekend… below are some of the players:
Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel (Chelsea)
Victor Moses was a second half substitute coming on for Brazilian winger Willian in their 2-2 draw away at Swansea. Never had a real impact on the game. John Mikel was not selected for the game.
Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City)
In the absence of Sergio Kun Aguero, Kelechi had a great outing, grabbing an assist and the winning goal, in the 1-2 Manchester derby win. He sure painted Manchester blue.
Odion Ighalo and Isaac Success (Watford)
Ighalo pulled one back for Watford after going down 2-0 and helped complete an emphatic 2-4 victory against Westham with an assist for Holebas. He is the first visiting Premier league player to score at the Olympic stadium. Isaac Success replaced Odion Ighalo in the 69th minute but the game was all but wrapped up.
Ahmed Musa (Leicester City)
Musa came on as a halftime substitute for Japanese Shinji Okakazi, but could do little to rescue his team from a 4-1 humbling at Anfield.
Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)
Iwobi came into the fray as a 75th-minute substitute for Theo Walcott in Arsenal’s lucky 2-1 win against Southampton.
Hope Akpan (Blackburn Rovers)
Hope played all 90minutes in Rovers 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. He got a yellow card for a foul in the 47th minute.
Sone Aluko (Fulham)
It was a bad day in the office for Aluko as his side lost at home to Birmingham city, Aluko played all 90 minutes.
Carl Ikeme (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Carl Ikeme did well to save Lucas Akins penalty to deny Burton the lead in the 21st minute but eventually surrendered Wolves lead to draw 1-1. He played all 90 minutes.
Uche Agbo (Granada)
Agbo played through the first half but was subbed after the break for Artem Kravets who levelled the score for Granada. Eibar bagged all 3 points.
Ikechukwu Uche (Gimnastic de Tarragona)
Uche came on in the 71st minute for Levy Madinda in Gimnast 1-0 loss to Alcoron.
Ramon Azeez (Almeria)
Azeez played 79 minutes of Almeria’s 3-3 draw against Girona. Replaced by Joaquim Fernandez.
Leon Balogun (Mainz)
The towering center back played all 90 minutes as Mainz surrendered a 3 goal lead to Hoffenheim. The match ended 4-4.
Vincent Enyeama (Lille)
Enyeama let 4 past him as Lille was humiliated 1-4 by visiting Monaco. He played all 90 minutes.
Dickson Nwakaeme (Angers)
Dickson came on for Famara Diedhiou in the 70th minute in Anger 3-1 win against Dijon.
Henry Onyekuru, Anthony Bassey and George Gamabo (Eupen)
Onyekuru played 88 minutes while Anthony Bassey was introduced in the 74th minute. Gamabo sat out all game in Eupen’s 2-1 victory over Oostende.
Wilfred Ndidi (Genk)
Ndidi played all 90 minutes in Genk’s 2-0 loss away to Standard Liege.
Moses Simon and Rabiu Ibrahim (Gent)
Simon played all 90minutes grabbing a goal in the 70th minute while Ibrahim was brought on in the 88minute for Kenny Sayef. Gent beat Lokeren 3-0.
Ndubuisi Agu (Victoria Setubal)
The defensive midfielder played all 90minutes in their goalless draw away to Chaves.
Kehinde Fatai and Sly Igboun (FC Ufa)
Sly played all 90minutes while Fatai came on as a 72-minute substitute for Islamnur Abdulavov.
Ezekiel Henty (Lokomotiv Moscow)
The forward was taken off in the 57th minute for Igor Portnyagin as they lost to Spartak Moscow.
Fegor Ogude (Amkar)
Ogude played all 90minutes in Amkar 1-0 win over Tomsk.
Jerry Mbakogu (Krylia Sovetov)
Jerry played through 90minutes but could not help his team prevent defeat.
